Indonesian sawtail cranes live in the cold upwelling areas of the Indonesian waters. The natural diet is unknown, and it is inferred that they mainly feed on seaweed. The Indonesian sawtail crane was discovered in 2001 and has never been seen in the aquarium market.

The Indonesian Sawfish has an oval shape and a flat side. The head is medium and large, the snout is protruding, the mouth cleft is small, the upper and lower jaws are of equal length; the upper and lower jaws each have a row of teeth, the front end is incisor-like, and the rear end is serrated. The body is covered with tiny comb scales, resembling shark skin. The spines of the dorsal and anal fins are sharp; the pectoral fins are nearly triangular.
