Classification and control of common parasites in guppies

2021-05-26 / 943 Read

The parasites of peacock fish are also like dog parasites, which are divided into internal parasites and external parasites, but generally we cannot distinguish the parasites of guppy fish. In vivo or in vitro, we must observe carefully, and if guppies get parasites, they will rub against the tank. What are the common parasites in guppies? How to prevent them?

Classification

guppies

1. Fish lice disease

The catfish disease is also called fish lice disease. Fish lice are parasitic crustaceans with a transparent living body that is very similar to the body color of the host. It looks like a bed bug, and is also known as fish lice disease and fish turtle disease. The catfish is parasitic on the body surface and gills of the fish, sucking the blood of the fish, making the fish gradually lose weight. The skin of the fish is stabbed or torn with the mouth spines and jaws during feeding, causing many wounds that promote the infection of microorganisms in the water, thereby causing the death of the sick fish. In addition, the venom secreted by the kingfish when it sucks blood with its mouth piercing has a stimulating effect on the fish. Therefore, the sick fish are extremely restless in the water, swimming wildly and jumping rapidly, and as long as a few catfish are parasitized in each fish, it can cause death.

Treatment method: Dip the sick fish with a solution of trichlorfon with a concentration of 0.25 to 5ppm (0.25~5ppm), remove it with tweezers, or use 1ppm ( 1ppm) 666 solution, or put the fish into 1.0%~1.5% salt water, and the parasites can be eliminated after 2~3 days.

Second- and third-generation worm disease

Juveniles suffering from third-generation worm disease, the fish body began to fade and became pale and dull, and the surface mucus increased; The fins are drooping, the ends are curled and gradually split; showing extreme restlessness, sometimes swimming wildly in the water or swimming sharply at the bottom of the water, trying to get rid of the harassment of parasites, then loss of appetite, slow swimming, gradually losing weight, and in severe cases causing sick fish die. After three generations of parasites on the gills of the fish, it will cause difficulty in breathing, and will suffocate and die soon.

Treatment: Formaldehyde (formalin solution) is the most commonly used and effective drug for the treatment of fluke disease. When using formalin to kill flukes, the dosage must be sufficient, otherwise it will lead to drug resistance of the flukes and the formation of resistant mutants, making it difficult to kill the drugs. There are two general methods of medication: one is to use a low dose for a long time, such as 24 hours after using 20 to 40 parts per million (20~40ppm) medicated bath, and then change more than half of the water; Time, such as 200ppm to 250ppm (200~250ppm) medicated bath for 1 hour, change the water more than 90%. Due to the large oxygen demand when the sick fish are parasitized by flukes, it is necessary to continuously pump up the dissolved oxygen during the treatment.

3. Small melon worm disease

Also known as white spot disease, sick guppies will keep rubbing against the tank to relieve physical discomfort. The small melon bugs are notched family, small melon bug genus, and multi-seed melon bug. This is a relatively large ciliate. Its morphology is very different between the larval and adult stages. The larvae of the small melon bug attack the skin and gills of fish, especially the skin. In the early stage of infection of guppy fish, white spots are distributed on the chest, back, caudal fin and body surface skin. At this time, the diseased fish forages as usual. After a few days, the white spots are all over the body, and the fish loses its ability to move and often appears sluggish. Shape, floating on the water surface, slow swimming, loss of appetite, weak constitution, skin accompanied by bleeding spots, sometimes swinging from side to side, and quickly swimming beside the aquarium wall, aquatic plants, and gravel to rub it, and swimming gradually loses balance. The course of the disease is generally 5-10 days, and the infection rate is extremely fast. If the treatment is not timely, a large number of deaths can be caused in a short period of time.

Treatment method: 1. Stop eating for 4~5 days first: reduce pollution, keep the water temperature constant, and raise the temperature 2~3℃ higher than the original water temperature.

2. Keep the water temperature constant: The water temperature should be kept constant to reduce water pollution and prevent the occurrence of small melon bugs.

3. Increase the water temperature in the initial stage: When it is found that the parrot suffers from white spot disease, the water temperature can be increased at the initial stage, which will destroy the environment for the reproduction and growth of the small melon insects, and let the small melon insects perish by themselves.

4. Methyl blue crystal powder: A small amount of methyl blue crystal powder is released in the water, which can change the color of the entire water quality, which can effectively eliminate the pathogen of small melon insects.

5. Remove the aquatic plants in the tank: If there are no aquatic plants, the plants can be properly administered. The aquatic plants are sensitive to various drugs and die quickly.

6. Strengthening feeding and management: The disease needs comprehensive treatment, and only medication has little effect. It is very important to strengthen feeding and management.

Four. Measures and key points to prevent parasites

1. Improve the fish's own resistance

(1) Pay attention To strengthen the nutrition of fish, choose better compound feed to feed, but pay attention not to feed too much each time.

(2) Regularly add some nutrients and immune regulators to the feed, such as immune activity growth promoters, fish feeding, etc.,

(3) It can improve the physical fitness of fish Get a quicker recovery, greatly improve the resistance to external parasites and other pathogenic organisms, and effectively prevent the outbreak of parasitic diseases.

2. Improve the water environment

(1) When there is insufficient oxygen, a large amount of toxic intermediates will be produced, which will greatly reduce the resistance of fish and cause infection with parasites, including parasites. The risk of various diseases increases.

(2) In addition to changing the water properly, it is necessary to maintain high dissolved oxygen in the water body and a good water quality environment. Water quality improvers and disinfectants can be used regularly, such as once every 10-15 days. Pool protection, or the application of Water Protection King once every 15-20 days, can effectively promote the growth of phytoplankton in the water body, the improvement of water color and the feeding of fish, prevent the accumulation of metabolic waste, and effectively improve the water environment for fish to survive.

3. Kill the parasites carried by the fish

(1) Since the fish more or less carry certain parasites before overwintering, the water temperature rises once , these parasites can easily multiply and infect the fish in large numbers.

(2) In order to prevent the outbreak of parasitic diseases, some safe, efficient and pollution-free drugs on the market can be selected, such as fish and insect killing stars, gram insect king series of drugs, etc., which are more thorough. It can kill a small amount of parasites carried by the overwintering fish itself.

4. Other methods to prevent fish parasites:

(1) Do not buy sick or abnormal fish.

(2) Observe them more when buying fish to see if their body color is normal? Do they swim lively?  (3) Do a good job in the quarantine of new fish.

(4) Try not to feed live bait, especially red nematodes, red worms, and water fleas. Even if you want to feed them, you can freeze the live bait first, so that the bacteria-carrying situation is not as serious as that of live bait.

(5) Do a good job in the disinfection of water quality.

(6) Reduce the fish's sense of urgency, so as not to reduce the resistance.

(7) Provide nutrient-rich food, without the harm of bacteria, and rich in nutrients, but the acceptance of fish is slower than that of live bait.

(8) Do a good job of preventive deworming work. This is what I do in the last few days of each month, first outside the body and then inside the body (the deworming burger is used in the body).
