Foxes are carnivores and feed primarily on rodents, fish, frogs, mussels, shrimp, crabs, earthworms, birds and their eggs, insects, and the carcasses of healthy animals. Under the condition of artificial feeding, it is mainly composed of food and feed. In the important feeding stage, supplementary feeding of some animal meat offal such as intestines, stomachs, heads, bones, etc. as feed can basically meet the needs of foxes. But scientific breeding of foxes has to go through five management steps.
Red Fox
1. Feeding and management before breeding
Silver foxes and blue foxes are the main types of fox breeding. The breeding preparation period for silver foxes is from December to January of the following year; the breeding preparation period for blue foxes can be extended to February. The main task during this period is to adjust the nutritional level of the diet and increase the proportion of protein in the diet, so that the foxes can reach an upper-middle body condition before mating. Different nutritional standards should be implemented for over-fat and over-thin foxes, so that their weight reaches 5-6 kg before breeding. At the same time, the light should be gradually increased to stimulate the development of the gonads, and the fox should be raised in the sunny place.
2. Breeding management during the breeding period
The breeding period of silver fox is from February to March, and the breeding period of blue fox is from March to April. In this period, the fox should be supplied with nutrient-rich, palatable and digestible feed, and the proportion of trace elements and multivitamins in the feed should be appropriately increased. Add 20-30 mg of vitamin E, 4-5 grams of onion or garlic and 1-1.5 grams of trace elements per kilogram of feed.
3. Feeding and management during pregnancy
Female foxes have a particularly strong demand for nutrition during pregnancy, so attention should be paid to supplying feed with comprehensive nutrition and good quality. Do not feed moldy and spoiled feed to prevent miscarriage. At the same time, it is necessary to do a good job in the hygiene and disinfection of the fox house, keep the fox house quiet, and minimize the occurrence of stress factors.
4. Feeding and management during lactation
The female fox has poor appetite in the early stage of calving. times, timed quantitative. The young foxes should be supplemented when they are 25 days old, usually 2 times a day. During supplementary feeding, fresh liver, fish, milk, eggs, etc. can be mixed into a paste, let the young fox eat, and put back to the original nest after supplementary feeding.
5. Feeding and management during the breeding period
Young foxes can generally be weaned and divided into litters at the age of 45 to 90 days, and the production can be based on the growth and development of young foxes The situation is flexible, and those with strong body and independent living ability should be divided into litters early; those with weak body should be postponed. The young foxes enter the breeding period after they are separated into litters. Because the young foxes grow rapidly at this stage, and the plush grows rapidly in the later stage, it requires a lot of nutrients. Therefore, the young foxes should be fed as much as possible during production to ensure the normal growth and development of the young foxes.
