Habits

Adults are phototaxis and fly towards lights at night.

It is a complete metamorphosis insect that goes through four stages in its life: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adults are cumbersome, not good at flying, and generally suck sap on trees. There are phototaxis and suspended animation. Adults like sap from fruit and tree wounds, and larvae feed on humus soil and have a long life cycle. Generally, one generation is completed in 1 to 2 years, and the larvae spend the winter as larvae.

Breeding method

Adults lay their eggs in the soil at a depth of 15-20 cm, and lay more than 30-100 eggs each time. The eggs hatch into larvae after 10 to 15 days, and the larvae feed on humus or dead wood. The larvae have three instars and become mature larvae after two molts. Mature larvae pupate in a circular pupa chamber in 15-20 cm deep soil or dead wood, and emerge into adults about 30 days after pupation.
