Linqing lion cats, also known as Shandong lion cats, are mainly produced in Linqing City, Shandong Province. There are two theories about their origin: one is the descendant of the Turkish Ankara cat that originated in Xinjiang, China, and the other Linqing people crossed Persian cats with Luxi cats to create a breed that resembles a little lion. According to the Linqing County Chronicle, the lion cat is larger than the ordinary one, with long hair and mopping the floor, and the color is as white as snow. Cao Kejia, a famous cat painting expert, once praised: There are no animals in the world with different eyes, only Linqing, Shandong has cats with different eyes.

Shandong lion cat has a big head, short ears, long hair on its body, and the hair on its neck and back can be as long as 4~5cm, which is why it got its name. According to the coat color, it can be divided into four types: white lion cat, black lion cat, whipped hydrangea and flower lion cat. The eye color of Shandong lion cat is divided into two blue eyes, two yellow eyes and mandarin duck eyes.

The snow-white lion cat with mandarin duck eyes is the most precious of this breed. The fecundity of Shandong lion cats is not strong. Generally, adult cats give birth to one or two litters per year, with 2 to 3 litters per litter, and the breeding period is 3 to 4 years. Shandong lion cat is good at jumping, quick in action, high in alertness, loves cleanliness, and is prone to fear of strong light and various stimuli.

The purebred Shandong lion cat has long white hair, and the hair on the neck and back is 4-5 cm long. It stands like a lion. There are also black and white varieties, but pure white is more precious. Shandong lion cats are strong, disease-resistant, cold-resistant, and good at catching mice. It has a gentle personality, does not like strangers, and has a strong dependence on the owner. Among them, the long-haired lion cat in Linqing City, Shandong Province is the most valuable. In addition to being covered with thick snow-white long hair, the Linqing lion cat is full of snow-white long hair. Some also have mandarin duck eyes (also known as yin and yang eyes) with one yellow and one blue, and are endowed with magical superstition legends. It is said that keeping such a cat at home can ward off evil spirits and bring good luck to the family.
