Can cats drink milk?

2022-01-03 / 952 Read

There are scenes like this in many TV and movies: the heroine's love is overwhelming, and she feeds stray cats with milk on the roadside every evening, so everyone thinks it's okay to feed cats with milk. In fact, cats are intolerant to milk sugar, and milk has a high lactose content. Generally speaking, cats are not suitable for feeding milk.

So can cats drink milk?

First, the cat's constitution. There are bound to be a few cats that are physically stronger or weaker than most cats. Just as some people have no problem drinking raw water, some people will have diarrhea if they drink raw water. But most normal or weak cats are not lactose tolerant.

Second, the problem of milk processing. After pure milk is cooked at high temperature, it will change the internal nutrient composition and consume a considerable part of lactose. Or dilute the lactose with pure milk 1:1 with water.

From the above two points, it's not that milk can't be fed to cats, but for the actual situation. But apart from professionals, how do you judge whether your cat is a super-strong type? How to ensure high lactose milk without problems. Even so, there are many low-lactose milks on the market, so why risk the cat's life!  How to feed kittens:

1. Kitten milk powder. This is the best food for cats that are not yet weaned.

2. Kitten cat food. Some people will say that cat food is hard and not suitable for kittens. So here is a proposal. Soak the cat food with boiling water, the cat food will be very soft in 5 to 10 minutes. Mash it into a paste with a spoon and feed it to kittens and cats. If economic conditions permit, you can also mix a little pet special digestive powder for cats.

3. If both of the above are unbearable and you can only feed milk, feed less as appropriate. Or you can also feed baby milk powder, preferably not the milk in general supermarket bags. The milk must be boiled and fed to the cat, and mixed with a little Momo biscuits.
