Pet The turtle's stool is not formed, is it because of gastroenteritis? If it is gastroenteritis, how to judge the severity of the disease? Not all Diarrhea is gastroenteritis, and not all gastroenteritis is treated the same way. How to avoid the problem of delayed or excessive treatment?
Then it is necessary to master the method of judging the condition of gastroenteritis.
(1) The cleanliness of the turtle's cloaca: If a turtle's stool is in strips, it can be pulled out of the body completely, and there will be no feces adhesions in the cloaca. When the stool is not formed or has many abnormal contents, it will stick to the cloaca or around the cloaca during the process of pulling it out of the body.
(2) Shape of turtle stool: If the turtle stool is formed, even if there is only a small amount of food residue, it does not constitute gastroenteritis, but only indigestion. There are many reasons that can cause indigestion. Common reasons include low feeding temperature, large changes in feeding temperature, and inappropriate food types for this type of turtle. For example, for turtles raised outdoors, the owner needs to take into account the weather changes within a week and leave at least three to four days for the turtles to digest. If the time is not enough, they must be hungry and should not be fed. Some turtles with weak stomachs, such as the East African leopard tortoise (detailed introduction) and the Indian star tortoise, are not suitable for long-term consumption of lettuce with too much water as the staple food, or for the water turtle, the barley worm. Also not suitable for long-term staple food. When the stool is formed due to mild indigestion caused by these reasons, it does not constitute gastroenteritis. It is necessary to correct the poor feeding method, and stop eating to heal itself.
(3) Content of food residues in the stool: If the stool is completely digested, no food residues can be seen. If there are food residues in the stool pulled out by the turtle, it means that the turtle has not digested the food it ate. Stools with mild gastroenteritis contain more food scraps, moderate or severe gastroenteritis either no food scraps are visible or almost all of the food is pulled out. Why, because the tortoise's digestive function is disturbed or even lost due to moderate to severe gastroenteritis, the food prototype that is pulled out may be filled with abnormal contents, secretions, etc., such as jelly-like, bean curd-like or other.
(4) Content of abnormal contents in stool: what are abnormal contents, such as jelly, bean curd residue, small bean curd flakes, etc. are common abnormal secretions. The stool of a healthy turtle will not have any abnormal secretions. These abnormal secretions are caused by various intestinal lesions. For example, in fibrinous necrotizing enteritis, there will be fibrinous pseudomembrane shedding, so that these things can be seen in the stool.
(5) Smell of stool: The odor here refers to the smell of stool pulled out of a recipe that does not conform to the variety. For aquatic turtles with a high proportion of meat-eating diets, the smell of stool will be greater than that of tortoises that are mainly vegetarian, but it cannot be said that this is the smell of stools of gastroenteritis. Moderate to severe gastroenteritis has a foul-smelling stool.
The above points are the characteristic symptoms of gastroenteritis. According to the state of the turtle, we will introduce what is mild, what is moderate and what is severe in gastroenteritis.
(1) The degree of sunken eyes: the degree of sunken eyes is one of the signs to judge the degree of dehydration of turtles. Pay attention to accurate judgment, do not regard the lower eyeliner of the turtle as a sunken eye.
(2) The fullness of the traction muscles on the top of the head. The plumper and healthier. Both flat and concave are dehydrated states.
(3) The limbs can be propped up for walking and the head can be lifted normally: It means that the turtle's body strength is good, and vice versa.
